The unveiling of this new US Postage Stamp commemorating the fight against Alzheimer's. Available starting October 2008.
If you did not have a chance to attend - this was a fantastic event to both learn about progress against this terrible disease and to support those working in the fight against Alzheimer's and those heroically caring for the afflicted.
As always, Senior Helpers is in the forefront to provide support.
Among the notable speakers:
Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman, Chicago Hope) shared his own family's experience of his mother being afflicted with Alzheimer's in the 70s, and how his own father actually passed away due to the strain of caregiving.
Patti Garamendi - wife of Lt. Governer of California John Garamendi and also a former Associate Director of the Peace Corps - shared her own ongoing experience with her own mother. Besides talking about some of the experiences which she is blessed with in caregiving - such as how her mother responds when her son-in-law John was elected as Lieutenant Governer - she also expressed her great and sincere thanks and appreciation for all those working to both fight the disease and to care for those afflicted.
There was also a fantastic presentation on the present state of Alzheimer's research - this will be added in a separate post.
